Alabama tornadoThunderstorms, severe winds and tornadoes slammed the South Wednesday, killing dozens of people in four states.The numbers of known dead in Alabama rose rapidly this evening. At least 58 were killed in the state Wednesday, The Associated Press reported after 11 p.m. ET.The toll came soon after ABC News Birmingham, Ala., affiliate WBMA, also known as "33/40," reported at least 53 people dead, which was not long after Alabama emergency officials told ABC News at least 40 had died."There are more out there to be confirmed because search and rescue is underway in a number the counties," Alabama Emergency Management Agency information manager Yasamie August said. "However, there are still storm systems moving through the county, as we speak."

As many as 120 tornadoes have been reported from since Thursday including Friday's 98 reports.

As many as four tornadoes touched down in Illinois on Friday. Of the four touch downs, two occured in Menard County, one in Montgomery County, and one in Mason County.

The only report with damage and/or injuries came out of Poplar City in Mason County where a tornado damaged a house and injured one person. There were also reports of numerous trees down in the area.

A large duplex located on property owned by Plymouth Congregational Church, 4126 Ingersoll Ave., has been stripped of its copper pipes.The property at 4018-4020 Ingersoll Ave., has been vacant for about two years.Burglars removed all of the copper pipe and tubing, ripping it from walls and ceilings. They also tore out fixtures. Church officials did not know when the theft occurred. It was reported on Wednesday.Thieves have been taking copper and other metals this spring to sell as scrap.Also on Wednesday, another theft of copper was reported at 3202 East University Ave. The house at that location is being remodeled.

Council Bluffs police are investigating a fatal crash on Interstate Highway 80 at the bridge crossing at Indian Creek.Officers said it was a single vehicle accident.The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle. She has been identified as Lori Rosas, 28, of Omaha.The crash occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was eastbound when it struck a guardrail on the south side of the bridge and swerved across three lanes into a concrete bridge railing.The accident remains under investigation.
